Hyponatremia

Definition

  • Serum sodium concentration <135 mmol/L.

Classification (biochemical)

  • Mild – between 130 and 135 mmol/L
  • Moderate – between 125 and 129 mmol/L
  • Profound – less than 125 mmol/L

Classification (temporal)

  • Acute – less than 48 h
  • Chronic – greater than 48 h
